Addiction

Addiction

He comes home breathing in a new way

Mother asks why he won’t settle down and calm his breath

Where did he get the fire in his lungs?

He says it’s the new black

The way of life in these streets

The streets introduce new drugs

Racy highs called by fancy names

The children return home with heavier chests and blurry visions

It isn’t safe to deliver your child into the hands of the world

They can get caught up in the dreams sold to young souls

It is easy to get addicted to the promises of a higher life

Escaping reality and pain

A bit of fun in a fix becomes a habit

Something as normal as breathing

‘til the body aches for it and can’t live without it

Addicts would sell their mothers to curb the cravings
